Sifting And Stirring Poem by Bill Galvin

Sifting And Stirring

He's been here before;
Sort of knows when…
Long ago before this time
And the life-waters then
Were from different snows.

He's seeing things again;
The faces all changed;
Handwriting more vague;
And his bothers, unarranged,
Come from different woes.

Looking back for what reason?
Sifting through old papers;
Stirring older pots;
Up from the bottom layers,
Visions no one else knows.

It has to be finished;
He can't even say why.
Clocks on his walls
Claim that time draws nigh;
Pens can't make wordless prose.

If it comes from the past,
Even if you feel undressed,
Rhyme may be reason enough
If you did your best.
Who knows where it all goes…

Maybe to become the life-waters
Of tomorrow's new snows.
