Silence Is Not God, Nor Is Speech His Name Poem by Mohammad Younus

Silence Is Not God, Nor Is Speech His Name

Silence is not God, nor is speech His name,
Fasting is not God, nor the feast's bright flame.
Solitude is not God, nor the gathering's song,
Nor any pair of opposites where we belong.

He dwells, veiled, between the two,
In the unseen seam where all is new—
Not grasped in absence, nor in presence found,
Not held in thought, nor in forgetting bound.

No act of the soul can draw Him near—
Not longing's ache, nor seeking's tear,
Not knowing's light, nor unknowing's night.
He is revealed only in love's pure sight,
A love that asks not, a love unclaimed,
A love that surrenders, even unnamed.

Reason stumbles, its reach too frail,
Understanding falters, its walls too pale.
To approach Him, one must lay down
The weight of knowledge, the scholar's crown,
The comfort of certainty, the need to own,
The illusion of grasping the great Unknown.

To know Him is to step beyond knowing's shore,
To surrender the mind, the self, and more,
Into the vast expanse where mysteries pour.
Only then, in the hush of surrender's grace,
Does the heart begin to glimpse His face—
The One who is beyond all names, all space,
The Eternal Presence, the Infinite Embrace.

In the stillness where all opposites cease,
There, in the silence, He whispers peace.
Not in the clamor, nor in the void,
But in the love that is unalloyed—
A love that simply is, He loving Himself,
And ever shall be He, Lover and Beloved both,
The Seeker, the Sought, the eternal troth,
The Creator creating to manifest Himself to Himself.
