Silent Fear Poem by Wynono Kwahu

Silent Fear

Silence can be an eerie sound
Fear for one you love has your heart run aground
Heartbeat pushes past the speed of light
Hard to understand things will be all right

Breathing is fast and chest become tight
The mind can’t accept and runs in fright
Let your heartbeat settle and your mind will understand
Whatever is happening has always been planned

When deeply in love the worry is deeper
To protect who we love from the hands of the reaper
Hold true to your heart and your path will be straight
Sometimes hearing their voice but sometime we wait

Waiting to hear there voice in the quiet
The mind becomes unsettled and wants to riot
Use the love in your heart to calm the mind
Settle the spirit and everything works out fine

I know this sound easy but I know it’s not
In this dilemma at the moment I am caught
Torn between panic and the love in my heart
I know what’s right and panic’s not smart

So I began writing these words
At the moment I’m grounded can’t fly with the birds
I know the moment I hear her voice
My heart will take flight and my spirit will rejoice

But till then I will sit alone in this space
Listen for the voice that will light up my face
Drink coffee or tea or whatever is there
All I can do is offer up a prayer
