Sister Philomena's Peony Poem by Marilyn Lott

Sister Philomena's Peony

It was a sunny day many years ago
At a convent where we loved to visit.
Sister Philomena, my favorite nun
Showed us her flowers, so truly exquisite.

She picked up a bare root on the ground
"Would you like to have this? " she asked.
Of course I said "oh yes, I would"
A treasure that I wouldn't have passed.

I wondered if these simple roots would do well
This was a Peony and I put it in the ground
I don't remember how long it took
For it to settle in and become quite sound.

But, my friend, my Peony grew and bloomed
I am so happy Sister gave her to me
I look forward to see it every single year
I'm excited when they bloom so beautifully!
