Slept Late Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Slept Late

Slept late!

It is hard to accept,
I slept until late,
Me, till ten?

It is fact, and honest
Feel a sort of ashamed!

But it is from pain,
"Why am I human? "

Wish was not!
Wish was not!
Wish was not!

Wish had not read the books,
Wish had not travelled,
Wish stayed in village
To become a shepherd…

Wish had been a camel
With my eyes in blind
And tied to a pole there
In centre of a mound
Of cotton and the seeds…

I would go round and round
Ignoring numbers, count
Of rounds in a day, night.

If there, the two stones,
One, fix, one rotating
To crush cotton seeds,
Would send out the oil
For, using in the kitchen…

Wish never had seen roads
To go and see the world,
Life meant pick and shovel,
And the barns and the pens
With my lambs and the goats
For their wool, meat, and milk.

There, mothers, and fathers
Would never be homeless
Since old was respected.

Now, live in a city
Of great country.

I know of poor's metal
Extracted, sent out
To be turned into arms
Which is sold, and tried
By taking the lives of
The owners of the mines.

USA and China,
Britain and Russia
United with Spain
And the rest of Europe
Send trucks, navy ships
To compete in selling…

The buyers and murdered
Must, always be, remain
The same as me, shepherd…

Hate living in city
Where an old or ageing
Means the word: "Misery! "

Wish was not human!
Wish was not human!
Wish was not human!

In the time of Trump
In the time of the young
That only knows money
As payer or payee,
To machines for killing,

Wish was not human!
Wish was not human!
Wish was not human!

Heard it once, it remains
In my mind, forever:
"Have Google and Wiki,
Have no time to wait, see
The nagging elderly! "

Want to be a swan, or
One of the Camelids
In any Andes Height,
To face my final days
In serene, loneliness.

Love to face my ending
All alone, with myself…

Do not want to be sent
To one of residents
Run by the government
Together with merchants,
Both wealthy, corrupted!

Want to go, walk free
But land is divided:
"Here is Private,
We arrest trespassers! "

Wish was not human!
Wish was not human!
Wish was not human!

Where is gut that I had,
Rappelling from heights?
Want to do the same but
With no rope to end life!

Wish had not been cadet
To become officer and pilot
To fly in skies, losing sense
Of borders.

Hate city's silver cage:
"People are different! "
