Snap Judgement Poem by Asit Kumar Sanyal

Snap Judgement

Rating: 5.0

When we meet someone for the first time
Interview someone for a job
react to a new plan
take decision quickly
We take few seconds to judge.

A student in school, college, university
takes very little time in class
to judge a new teacher
or a video on him
with sound turned off.

For it, we toggle back and forth
Between our conscious and unconscious
modes of thinking
depending on the situation
and take the spontaneous decision.

It's done by a different part of our brain,
and a different part of our personality
It's the power of our adaptive unconscious
that helps a woman to judge a stranger
or choose boyfriend on first sight.

Mind operates this sophisticated thinking
to the unconscious
just as a modern jet liner
with little or no input from human
People say it ‘snap judgment'.
