So-Called Science Poem by Raymond Farrell

So-Called Science

Rating: 5.0

This new religion
Who's theology involves
The systematic study
Of secondary effects
But cannot
Definitively
Tell its adherents
Anything
About primordial causes
Requires no faith
Requires no God
Requires no allegiance
To any moral principles
Has been practiced
In hospitals, laboratories
Prisons, mental asylums
And death camps
Has obtained its results
By merciful ways
Or through torture
Without concern
For what the long term consequences will be
Perhaps some
Disease will be eradicated
Perhaps humanity
Will be exterminated
Science is the means
To whatever end
Its methods may lead
And merely a tool
At the disposal
Of the scrupulous
And unscrupulous as well
Those who blindly apply
Its principles and method
Without conscience
Or moral constraint
However despised they may be
If they're method of application is correct
Cannot be excommunicated
From this amoral temple
Where so many
Of this world's
Best and brightest
Have chosen to worship.
