Sober Thoughts Poem by Etienne Charilaou

Sober Thoughts

We can't all be millionaires. Only some.
We can't all be astronauts. Only some.
We can't all fly planes. Only some.
We can't all go to the moon. Only some.
We can't all go to Mars. Only some.
We can't all have Ferraris. Only some.
We can't all travel to tropical isles. Only some.
We can't all play in the major leagues. Only some.

We can all dream.
We can all be at peace.
We can all learn to be more loving.
We can all learn to be more humble.
We can all hope.
We can all pray.
We can all meditate in some way.
We can all learn to be patient.
We can all learn to be kinder.
We can all learn to be gentler.
We can all learn something new.
We can attempt the impossible.
We can all aim for greatness.
We can all transcend ourselves.
But it takes time.
It takes effort.
It takes faith.
It takes courage (not easily acquired) .
It takes endurance.
It takes more than we can imagine or know.
But it is possible, and ultimately
inescapable.
For most.
