Someday My Prince Will Come by Anabel Collier

You know when I was little, someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up
and I said a princess, but
Princes don't like girl who are big
Princes don't like girls who are big and loud
Princes don't like girls who are big, loud, and off key,
Princes don't like me as a girl who fits all those qualities,
they like and everyone likes

Belle who was thin as can be
Snow White who was thin and quiet

I am hoping that one day,
just like Snow and Belle
A prince will love me
And so I write my princess list

It includes
To be thin and liked and pretty
With big eyes and thighs that don't rub together louder than my off key singing.
Things I've never wanted anything more than to be
That's what my princess list writes

I want them to love me, but it's hard and it's not so easy
I want to tell them that I'm done with you and your messed up notions
They say you don't need a prince or any approval but your own
Write your own ending
But how can I do that when no one looks like me?
So instead, I write my princess list.
