Sometimes Life Takes Away The People You Love Most, Poem by Daya Nandan

Sometimes Life Takes Away The People You Love Most,

Sometimes life takes away the people you love most,
Destroying and turning them into an invisible ghost,
And all that is left of them is their shadow in your mind,
Bits and pieces of their existence that you can barely find,

All those moments you took for granted are all lost,
Frozen in your memory covered by thick frost,
You never knew that the last time you met would be the last,
So you are broken down to bits and dwelling in the past,

You try to wake yourself and pretend these are bad dreams,
You try to sleep yourself away to drown out your silent screams,
And soon after the substance abuse starts to forget the pain,
That comes down ice cold upon you like a heavy rain,

Some take drugs to dull the emotions and forget it all,
Only to get addicted and watch their lives fall,
Some take alcohol to drown out the pain and sorrow,
Only to realize they are headed to a darker tomorrow,

There are those who engage in crimes to forget the pain,
Basically anything to numb emotions in the brain,
if you dwell in the past for too long you will surely lose control,
And the wounds that are left within will corrupt your mind and soul,

It will plant the seed of darkness within you, change who you are,
It will bring you to a dark universe absent of even a single star,
It will drown and suffocate you slowly until your last breath,
To the point that you will use suicide as your pathway to death,

You have to learn to forget or rather learn and move on,
Create a new beginning from the pieces and be reborn,
Let the past be a stepping stone, let pain strengthen your soul,
Rebuild your mind and body set a new motivation and goal,

Let not the past hold you back from moving forward in life,
Let not the past trick you to destruction with its knife,
It's the circle of life where people live and die,
So get up, dust yourself up, spread your wings and fly!
