Somniare Poem by Menachem Rephun

Somniare

Somniare

At the gates of the city, my grandfather

Shows me the buildings, some

Thousands of years old. Once symbols for mankind

They are crumbling into ruin

See how the dark clouds rush past

Never bringing rain.

I am a child in that city

An evil spirit takes root in the darkness

I wait in the high grass, outside the cathedral

The emperor is plotting destruction

Look for a wise man, to explain these symbols, who will

Show you the path to follow

A girl helps me reconstruct the tower

Brick by brick, I make my way over the toppling beams

To outrun the fate that lies in store

Her father knows the hidden places,

What lies beyond the wall, an ocean maybe

A dark wilderness
