Song: Just Lucky Poem by Dave SmithWhite

Song: Just Lucky

A strange encounter from my past.
The years stood still or barely passed.
We came together first and last;
I guess we were just lucky!

No hour ever went so fast.
Space/time bent on a fulcrum vast.
Forged and spent in fiery blast.
I guess we were just lucky!

Oh yes, we were lucky then.
More luckier I don't know when.
Of past mistakes, we made amends.
I guess we were just lucky!

I played the cards, I spun the wheel.
I hedged the bets with nerves of steel.
I thought I'd brought cruel fate to heel;
So young and so damned cocky!

Uncommon swines, all greed and zeal,
Learn the lines and give the spiel.
The tricks we turn to seal the deal;
The road is ever rocky!

Oh yes, I was so lucky then.
I took such risks beyond my ken.
I taunted lions in their den.
I guess I was just lucky!

It's funny how the years were shed,
Like these rumpled clothes here by the bed;
No guilt or fear or nameless dread.
I guess we were just lucky!

Oh yes, I was so lucky then.
More luckier I don't know when.
To love forever, I will unbend;
I guess I am just lucky!

Oh yes, we were lucky then.
More luckier I don't know when.
We found each other more than friends.
I guess we were just lucky!

I nailed my colours to the mast.
I railed at valour debased like brass.
Have we failed the heroes that died for us;
Are we all not, all just lucky?

I mowed the lawn and cut the grass.
I lived as traitor to my class.
For in life's play, I was miscast.
And yet I was just lucky!

Oh yes, we were lucky then.
More luckier I don't know when.
Our hopes and dreams, in happy blend.
I guess we were just lucky!

Oh yes, we were lucky then.
More luckier I don't know when.
The proof's a love that can never end.
I guess we were just lucky!

As empires rose and empires fell,
And all the rest just went to hell,
We found resources in ourselves.
I guess we were just plucky!

It's funny how the die was cast.
For fate's a gleeful iconoclast.
The laws of chance are all half-arsed.
I guess we were just lucky!

Oh yes, we were lucky then.
More luckier I don't know when.
For who can know what events portend?
I guess we are just lucky!

Oh yes, we were lucky then.
More luckier I don't know when.
But can those days yet come again?
I guess we were just lucky!
