I wonder at the beauty of the sea
waves that swell, decline, but never rest
storms that rage and fill the ocean breast
to then subside, in quiet stillness there to be.
I ponder too, the mystery of each tree
that reaches down to clutch, raises arms to wrest
the sky’s soft hue, embrace it as a guest
and then, let go, allow it just to be.
Somehow deep within, sea and tree are there
in darkness as in light, in whispers loud or low
echoes of my life, reverberate, come through
and all the pain and shame in sorrow I must bear
until the light makes darkness, just a distant flow.
Then all of life is seen for what it is, and true. (27/01/09)
