Sonnet: Be Honest Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: Be Honest

Rating: 4.0

If honest be a man all through his life,
As God is Truth, He’ll stand by him beside;
If he will waver not, despite all strife,
Why should he ever attempt suicide?

For Honesty is the best Policy;
No charges on an upright man is true;
To charge-sheet him also is not easy;
God will give him the dignity that’s due.

And knowing all this, people still tell lies,
And practise slander on their brethren rife;
Ill-gotten wealth is left back when man dies;
This is the time-tested truth of our life.
If man doesn't turn a new leaf in God's time,
He cannot make his life, ever sublime.
