Sonnet: Have Mercy On Him, Lord Poem by Dr John Celes

Preserve this soul, Almighty God, I pray:
A person known to me in life on earth;
Forgive his iniquities, sins, this day;
Prepare his soul to gain eternal mirth.

Ignore his blatant lies by habit made;
Have mercy on this gentleman somehow;
Remind the good things done and taxes paid;
Forget his foolish thoughts and acts, right now.

Perhaps, the world had paid him in same coin;
His wealth, ill-gotten will remain on earth;
May be, he wore a chain of gold for loin;
Forget his trespasses, Lord, since his birth.

Give him another chance to cleanse his soul;
Show lenience on his failed divine role.
