Sonnet Xiv - I Question, Wherefore Art Thou Dream Of Dreams Poem by Valerie Dohren

Sonnet Xiv - I Question, Wherefore Art Thou Dream Of Dreams

I question, wherefore art thou dream of dreams
When slumber ceases, where dost thou reside
Must I relinquish all which night redeems
And thus within the morning's plight abide
For fixed in sleep the world is sweet and fair
Thus rendering a gentle ease of mind
With nought my anguished heart to thus despair
In melancholy's grasp no more entwined
Oh dream of dreams I seek you whilst awake
To then recapture all that you bestowed
But thou art gone, no more to quell such ache
That in my heart has ever onwards flowed
………. In slumber, when I dream I dream of peace
……… And from all earthly care thus seek release
