What moves thy heart that thou shouldst so lament
Such melancholy pales the brightling day
What sorrow brings thy heart such discontent
Forsooth, are thou not ever wont to say
What words of comfort dost thou yet desire
To end the yearning fixed within thy mind
And how can I with kindly voice inspire
That all thy sorrow I may thus unbind
Thy tears, thy weeping rends this tender heart
Pray let me be thy welcome comforter
I shall not rest whilst we are set apart
And I my full esteem for thee declare
…………. Thy sadness is a grief I seek to mend
…………. Thou art to me a true belov'ed friend
