A Walk Through Paradise - Poem by Valerie Dohren

I close my eyes to find a place
In different time and different space
And in imagination find
A cloistered arbour for my mind
Where thought may there be unconfined

Then in my dreams a path I take
As in a trance, yet wide awake,
To see the world with open eyes
Its glist`ning sands and azure skies -
I take a walk through Paradise

Suspended there reflecting deep
Where time is lost, immersed in sleep,
A sleep of ages long since passed
As on the sea of change were cast
All things which then were reckoned fast

Above all earthly cares to soar
Beyond the hurts I there endure
To see a sweet and perfect land
Where sunbeams dance upon my hand -
Where peace and love I understand

And there before my eyes I see
Such beauty that could never be
Revealed in places fixed below
As set before me all aglow
Such wonders ever outward flow

So on I walk beyond the veil
Where joys untold yet e`er prevail
And through the mist of blindness see
Whatever be revealed to me -
In Paradise forever be

This is a beautiful write imagining. Our imaginations and dreams take us there. If we can dream it and see it, all things are possible! Nice rhythm to this poem! (Report) Reply

Subject matter wonderful. but it is your unerring sense of rhythm that brings the beauty of the concepts to sparkling life. Pity we can't give you more than a tenner!
where sunbeams dance upon my hand... a delightful line among many.

This is a perfect poem. I use that word boldly because no other word conveys how wonderfully shaped and felicitously expressed your poem comes across to the reader. Each stanza is fully realized in meter, rhyme, rhythm and imagery, and the whole poem is completely convincing. This is the kind of imaginative experience only poetry can make real. We have been conditioned to think that paradise comes AFTER everything else, that we should not expect in this lifetime. Your poem dispels that bias and gives us paradise here and now!
