Sous Un Poteau Telegraphique.(Translation) . Poem by Michael Walker

-' Under a Telephone Pole'.Carl Sandburg(1878-1967) .

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
See Carl Sandburg/Poem Hunter/ Poems/ 426/457.
The poet lets the telephone wire speak for itself. It is so slim it casts no shadow, it keeps humming and strumming. It carries conversations about 'love and war and money'; and also of death and the laughter of men and women. The wire gets wet in the rain and dries out in the sunshine.
A poem of great appeal because Sandburg uses the pronoun 'I' to let the wire speak for itself. It all comes down to the wire.
