Speaking Pleasant Words By Thiruvalluvar Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Speaking Pleasant Words By Thiruvalluvar

91. The spoken words of the virtuous people
With sweetness, love and uprightness are filled.
92. Better to speak pleasant words with a cheerful face
Than to be bounteous with a willing heart.
93. With a smiling face and pleasing looks, the words sweet
Springing from the heart is called virtue.
94. Those who utter pleasing, delightful words to all
Have no poverty to maul.
95. Humility and peasant speech are the ornaments to one
And any other thing present is nothing.
96. Seeking to speak sweet words
Makes vice vanish and virtue to flourish.
97. Sweet, virtuous words give benefits
And bring great pleasure and goodness at heart.
98. Kindly words free from meanness impart delight
In this birth and the birth next.
99. What purpose makes one use sassy words
when one sees the joy of speaking sweet words?
100.To natter on nasty words with fabulous words in hand
Likens choosing and eatingunrip[e fruits than to ripe ones.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Valsa George 10 August 2015

Words can build bridges between people, also crumble even edifices of human bond! Good words can build relationships while unkind and cruel words may sometimes shatter existing ties! So we have to be careful in using words! Encouraging and consoling words will be appreciated by all! A beautiful translation of Thiruvalluvar's couplets! !
