Spirit Of Christmas Poem by Solomon Terlumun Tule

Spirit Of Christmas

Rating: 5.0

Young and tender I was
This spirit I cherished and loved
For the rice we shared after a while
And the mamiwata we cheered in the square
When enemies pounded with one pestle
And the food they brought on a table
When families put behind their troubles
And tried to settle their squabbles
O spirit of Christmas
Thou unite all asunder
And calmed all the thunders
But your reign to me was a twilight
AS the day was but some seconds.

Childish I thought I had been
Now I'm grown and old
But this spirit didn't feign or change
And my desires are left unchained
As all share without guilt of race
Giving all they could for God to do the rest
O spirit of Christmas!
Symbol of unity and love
Thou bring joy to all souls
Minding not the religion the show
Only wish you are forever always
But your reign is just some seconds.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Christmas was one of the few moments we ate enough rice in my little clime growing up. Rice was rare to get so we always wish Christmas never ended.
