Standing Tall Poem by john tiong chunghoo

Standing Tall

Rating: 3.0

it is not how
many legs
you have
but how tall
you walk

i know why
all the prophets
carried a stick

it is to show followers
how to walk tall

i know why the
chinese write
from left to right
and upright

it's because
they aim to
walk tall
as confucius
steadfast as
his tenets

i know why
buddha sat
upright all
this while

it is to help
souls gain
nirvana
with one
straight
philosophy

a philosophy
that connects
heaven straight
with earth

A philosophical write John - like the way the long tall shape of the poem echoed the theme - reminded me of a Jacob's ladder. Justine.

A clever interpretation between relationships of man and the above; also, commendable use of Oriental lore to make this a vivid, interesting piece. - K.
