Star Struck Poem by James Walter Orr

Star Struck

I walked into the chilly air,
this cool, November night.
The brightest star, called Sirius,
attracted soon, my sight.

It hung aloft, aloof and bright,
for everyone to see.
Oh, how I wished it shed its light
for no one else but me.

I chanced upon a photograph
that showed a lovely smile.
The beauty in her perfect face
did my poor heart beguile.

The warmth and beauty mirrored there
for all the world to see,
Has shattered all my earthly hopes:
her smile was not for me.

I would just bask forever in
the warmth of such a glance,
if I knew that the smile was sent
to start our new romance.

Her luck is that this country has
strict laws that stand today,
so I can’t thrust all else aside
and spirit her away.

Just like the star that shed such light
that caused my soul to cry,
her smile will light my every dream,
until the day I die.
