Stars Of August Poem by Joseph Narusiewicz

Stars Of August

Her rain is the lonely glades
I am the golden rod
Everything bends like a river
Rope, anchors, docks
Water of rainbow endings
Calm cozy wombs of warm learning
Moving like restless lions of hunger
Savannah winds with silk witches

Blue sails in the drought
Dances in circles of wine
Yellow prattles in the gardens of home
Old varnished days
Kilns, tribal colors where rivers laugh
Lapping waters of the evening tide
The green beast in Whitman's prime
Currents of the Irish tears

Don't go babes or I will fade
Time is a golden watch
Now my sorrow needs faith
A new star seems to call my name
The past stretches like a new day
She says...love never stops
Play your hand and make your bet
Another card is on the way

Play your tears like taps
Rescue me from these great horned beast
Hour of the poison song
Fredrick Douglas is a revolution
Banners of cotton uniforms
Marching to a bullet in Memphis
Canopy around the earth of sorrow
Perseid light flairs like forgotten graves

Tunes like ancient prophets
Folk songs where death laments
Change is a inside spark
Causes are morals in action
So many friends gone
Tunic of sorrow love feels the wars
Coat of many colors
Life is the mystery of tomorrow

Over the waters the stars of August fall
