Stilled Shadow Poem by Dakota Ellerton

Stilled Shadow

The moon has risen
I sit on a tree branch
as I gaze upon her
under the stars I call for a goodbye
you made my life whole
and showed me how empty I am without you
tightly fastened around the branch
the lies and tears of others
bond around my neck
with my last breath
dare I say, I love you
I jump from the branch
nothing but gasps escape my lips
my body stops moving
as dawn arrives
my body, my pain, can now be seen
