Stone Story Poem by Cathy Shao

Stone Story

I looked at you
A deep blue sea

Playfully
Into the sea
I threw a small stone
Hoping
A big wave hug there for me

The sea had no response
No echoes
No ripples

I threw another stone
And another
And waited
But oh the unfathomable sea

When I left
I looked back
I found it was not a sea
But a desert, you see

In the desert
It's said that some people have found gems
But they may never know
The gems were once stones I threw for the sea
