Stop Asking Why Do I Write? Poem by Hebert Logerie

Stop Asking Why Do I Write?

Stop harassing me
Stop asking me why do I write?
I write for a myriad of reasons
Too many children are hungry
Too many of them are crying all the seasons
All the time. it is the same bull, the same riot.
Too many young men/women are underemployed
Too many of them are being exploited
They do not go to school, they‘re doing drugs
They're sad and hurt, they do not get hugs
Or kisses from loved ones. They are doing crimes
They are on drugs, and they kill for dimes.
Too many adults are living in despair
They never had a decent education
They are illiterate, they don't dare
Dreaming of a better life, a better job
They are under constant suspicion
By the authorities, they get jabbed
By the system, and their rights are violated
On a daily basis. Slavery was abolished
Along time ago. However, its remnants
Live on like fire ants in the brain.
Many people are hurt, many people are in pain
They are the perpetual defendants
They are harassed by the police
And in court, they face grave injustice
All the time. Do you still want to know
Why I use my pen as a weapon
To tell the truth and to disguise the faux?
By the way, some folks want to go to heaven
But they do not have the guts to make sacrifices
Because they're coward and are full of vices.
All writers and poets love humanity
They want a better world without injustice
Exploitation, corruption, disease, and malice
They dream of a wonderful world of peace
Of justice for all, and of love for all communities.
Must I go on? Do you want more details?
Give me more time, I will tell you more tales
In the meantime, wake up, get up to speak out
Get off your long tail before the blackout.
