Strangers Poem by Joyce Hemsley

Strangers

Imagination working overtime:

'He' boarded the bus and sat by her side
She couldn't ignore him however she tried!
The conversation went with a swing
Laughing and chatting about everything.

He made a promise; said he would call.
She waited for days, but silence was all.
Then quite unexpected...out of the blue,
A voice said 'hello'. Oh yes, it was true.

After talking a while, he suggested a tour
He'd booked a Boeing, leaving at four.
It happened so quickly before she could think
England to Singapore, in less than a week.

Then on to New Zealand to a hotel so grand
Through to Australia, such a beautiful land;
Next stop LA, where he bought a sweet ring
Told of his love; to her he would cling.

Returning to England, he said not a word.
She 'phoned and 'phoned; no voice she heard.
A missing person was he, and until this day
She is waiting and longing to hear him say:

'I've booked a Boeing - be ready by three'
But all was a dream, never ever to be.

Joyce Hemsley.
