Striving For Perfection Poem by dave lessard

Striving For Perfection

Have I passed the test Lord?
loving You with all my heart and being
how many rivers must I ford?
before my eyes are truly seeing?

Am I still not good enough?
do my sins still barricade the way?
Your truth is disciplined and tough
I fight to keep the wolves at bay.

The world can be a great distraction
if one does not have the grit
if one does not control one's action
he soon will slip into the pit.

The trials ahead are suffering and sorrow
some are bright, but others, dreary
I soon grow anxious of tomorrow
and the mind is weak and weary.

But I continue on my path to glory
putting all my fearsome thoughts aside
knowing, in the end, of my life's story
I'll be strong but humble, bereft of pride.
