Summer Poem by Richard D Remler

Summer

.............................

Summer drifts in
Through the fragile young corn,
Through the bottlebreath reeds,
Through the evergreen thorn.
Where the fireflies dance,
And the tall grasses grow,
In the whispering beauty
Where once there was snow.

Aye, the children are out -
And Summer is here,
Calling them all from
The far and the near.
No more lessons today -
Just go outside and play.
'Til the morning when
Schooltime calls you away.

You'll climb the old trees~
For they've stories to share.
And you'll discover the treasures
Our twilight hid there.
Go and race barefoot through
Fields of clover and thyme,
Unaware childhood is
But a short time.

The Summer is here,
And the morning is bright.
There is laughter and cheer
In the soft Summer light.
So, dive into the magic
That beckons today!
And waste not one moment!
Go outside and play.
