Sunahsepha 4- Unanswered Prayers Poem by Unnikrishnan Sivasankara Menon

Sunahsepha 4- Unanswered Prayers

Rating: 5.0

Sold, in exchange of a thousand cows
Soldiers took possession of me; kept
Under close guard, for fear of Indra
Flowing tears could melt no hearts.

None of my tearful prayers evoked
Any answer from Indra. Either they
Did not reach him, or he was
Reassured of his throne by now.

I remembered what mother had said, She
Had descended from Brahma, the Creator.
I wanted to propitiate Brahma Pitamaha
So, he may protect his progeny from death.

Nothing happened, though. Probably he had
No time for this little urchin, I thought.
Pushed by the soldiers, my legs gave way,
But the soulless soldiers dragged me away.

........But I continued my prayers
........For I just wanted to live.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This series of poems 'SUNAHSEPHA' is dedicated to my friend and great poet Susan Williams. Her support and continued appreciation prompted to pen them.Brahma is the Creator God as per Hindu myth. He had a son named Kusha, who became king of Kanyakubja. To him was born Kushanabha. Great King Gaadhi was Kushanabha's son. Sage Viswamitra who went on to attain the title of Brahmarshi and Satyavati mother of Sunahsepha are borne to King Gaadhi.Pitamaha (Sanskrit) means great grandfather.

I really felt inside the narrator here- -lost, alone, frightened. This invests the reader to feel this way amd lures me on to part 5! ! ! I love poetry that lures! ! ! 10++++++++++++++++

How in the world did I get so far behind in your delightful series? I've been sick lately but I like reading even when I'm sick. Now I have all these delightful Sunahsepha parts to enjoy through this Christmas season so all is good again. Thank you so much for the information in your Poet Notes- they ground me in the landscape of your poems
