Surface Poem by Josh Burnett

Surface

Let me say this one thing to you
I was good enough to you
I don't know why
You try to break me on my knees
I can tell you I won't grow weak
Because you fight something pointless
You are the one that made this mess
I'm not going to deal with it

Shove me under
Push me down further
Frustrated, agrivated
You take my breath
And keep me under the surface
Of all my mistakes
I don't know why
I try to keep you happy
Cuz you keep me under the surface
Of all my mistakes

Let me say this one thing to you
I did nothing to hurt you
I don't know why you continue to scream
Because you are the one to blame
I won't carry the weight of your shame
I've carried it for you long enough
Go ahead continue not to love
And I won't be there by your side

Shove me under
Push me down further
Frustrated, agrivated
You take my breath
And keep me under the surface
Of all my mistakes
I don't know why
I try to keep you happy
Cuz you keep me under the surface
Of all my mistakes

Let me say this one thing to you
You don't deserve my trust
And you taught me how not to love

Shove me under
Push me down further
Frustrated, agrivated
You take my breath
And keep me under the surface
Of all my mistakes
I don't know why
I try to keep you happy
Cuz you keep me under the surface
Of all my mistakes
