Something To Be Poem by Josh Burnett

Something To Be

Tell me, because I don’t know what I want to be.
Hold me, because I don’t have anybody to hold me.
Tell me everything that you want to be,
And maybe I’ll get an idea of what I want to be.
I’m so sick and tired of trying to be me.
I need someone I can pretend to be.
Maybe then you would fall in love with me.

I keep searching for something to be.
Although I just want to be me.
Through my eyes it’s so hard to see,
And with the shape I’m in it’s hard to breathe.
So give me something that I can be.

Show me everything that I could turn out to be.
Listen I’m telling you that’s it’s just no me.
Searching, I keep looking around for me,
But there’s nobody I can see that I can possibly be.
I know that being me is right,
But right is wrong and it’s been like that for so long.
I can’t fit in every piece so what can I be.

You never let me see what I could be,
And I didn’t want to be what you could see.
You never let me dream of what I could be,
And therefore I lost myself and couldn’t be me.

I keep searching for something to be.
Although I just want to be me.
Through my eyes it’s so hard to see,
And with the shape I’m in it’s hard to breathe.
So give me something that I can be.

Just let me be me.
