Surgical Strikes! Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Surgical Strikes!

Rating: 5.0

The quality of medicine is stained!
Two bottles of expectorant were enough
To clear the web of sputum ‘round my lungs.
But four bottles I need to cough up the phlegm to-day!
The pills for three days would quell the fever.
For six days I'm to consume them now.
People pay Rs.250/= for one time consultancy
But my doctor gets Rs.80/= to give pills and injections.
My God! Some psychiatrists are money-maniacs!
The psychotics have no of relief from their ills.
There are people who're careful to get money
for casting their votes during the polls.
But they don't take care even when Dengue assails
or the viral fever swells the heat of their children.
The retirees don't go to assigned hospitals
to avail free health care as they are not afford
to meet other expenses from their drained purse.
If the government hospitals have necessary health-wares
Why the people invade the private centres of health?
When Dengue steals the souls of children
The doctor who bought transfer last month
assures that the kids died of some strange fever.
They collect tax for not supplying drinking water
but to pay salaries to the water-tank operators.
The party men sell polluted water in canes.
And water-borne diseases hit the kids here and there.
As the officers are probing the nets to catch
the rumour-mongers who disturb the public peace
the insects and robbers are at large to strike the unwary.

The chemistry isn't good between the physicians
and the chemists who have got political clout.
My doctor wants to close his single-room clinic
as his customers are sore for the injections he gives
which have no effect on rising temperature for two days.
People sell all their lands to admit their wards
in professional courses which will bring unceasing rains!
Who will take risk to make surgical strikes on these ills?
