Sweet Sleep Poem by deepthi mallampalli

Sweet Sleep

Rating: 0.5

when the night was dark and the air was calm
and the lover waited for this from dawn
he knew exactly where she would be
high expectations in heart he left to see

in the garden adjacent to the lake
the beauty slept and there was nothing to fake
light reflected in the calm flowing waters
a smile spread as though remembering sweet matters

the long grass spread was quiet
nothing but air moved nothing but it
a soft reflection on her calm face
her body lays as a dainty fairy dwells

softly the grass was moved by a wandering step
the air smelled good and he took another step
his face was calm and took a breath as though dreaming
as if he did not want to disturb his love who was sleeping

he took a calm breath as he touched his hand
his lovers hand fell of her dress and touched the land
he felt he disturbed his love from her calm sweet sleep
but she did not move; he felt relieved back in a sweep

he bent slightly, his lips close to her ear
he softly spoke, but she did not move as she did not hear
he suddenly cried out, a cry of pain due to love
in vain he shook her looked below then above

those lovers were put to a severe test
it was not her calm sleep but her eternal rest
