Swung The Bell Into The Night Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

Swung The Bell Into The Night

Swung the Bell into the Night
East was of west
And west as of East:

Loud peals
And others not so loud!
Yet heard still!
And enjoyed still!

Winter is in the sound
Muffled
From chill of wind and
Mist.

And
From a scene of fright
Though in this Earth still kept
A joyous sight!

Christmas be welcome
In these conditions I sing
And ending of New Year
And come the Next!

Ah! such be Life
A mixture full of joy - and grief
And grief and joy
Awhile the church bells sound!

Swung the Bell into the Night
East was of west
And west as of East
And after joy be grief
And after grief joy
Thus Life! Thus we!
