Symptoms Diagnosed Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Symptoms Diagnosed

More chase the symptoms.
Like trained dogs.
Taught to fetch.
Then bring them back.
Before the next step taught,
To bury them.
In places remembered not to forget.

Symptoms are like flaws.
Wanting the causes of them hidden.
Forbidding them suspected.
As reasons to affect,
A mind wishing them kept suppressed.

Symptoms diagnosed,
Embarrasses those who have them.
And thrown to distances to be fixed.
Then hired are picked scientists.
Selected experts in their fields.
Paid to focus on symptoms.
Although knowing the causes.
Kept hushed to not reveal.

And warned to keep their mouths closed.
To not expose what they already know.
That what is taught to fetch,
Awaits excitedly...
To what they should do next.
Unconsciously protecting the master.
Who directs the effects.

"Jim Crow?
Why wouldn't you want anyone to know?
You should receive the credit.
What you've taught,
Has left the World impressed."
