Take A Stand Poem by Sadie Simpson

Take A Stand

Rating: 5.0

When I was 13, I got my very own tumblr. I found out what a problem sexism was... In modern America.

But to see how deep the roots of feminism go, is more than I ever thought possible.

I learned how many people stand for women like me- White. Confident. Smart. Who other people want to be.

Not to say I've never faced trouble due to the fact I'm a girl, but I've seen nowhere near as bad as others, and it makes me want to hurl.

And to see so many women and genders brushed off because they 'aren't important enough' to be cover models.

Who will stand for them as others stand for me? So many afraid to stand up and speak out. To let their voices be heard and ring out.

I... I will be one to take a stand, to stand hand in hand, our words never bland, together we will band, and WE... we will take a stand.

I'll take a stand for the little girl in Afghanistan who's missing half of her face due to her love of reading, something she can never do again because the acid in her face was blinding

I'll take a stand for the woman who said 'no' but ended up pregnant and called a ho.

I'll take a stand for the 11-year-old girl who can't get an abortion in her country regardless of the circumstances, who doesn't even know how babies are made yet.

I'll stand for the trans girl who stepped in front of a bus, who thought her gender killing her was a must.

I'll take a stand for the dark-skinned girl, who is told she's pretty 'for a black one'

I will stand for the anorexic who feels like she has to vomit her food to fit in.

I'll stand for the male rape victim who is told he cannot be raped because he should have enjoyed it, who was told he should have smiled and endured it.

I'll stand for the girl who is asked what she was wearing the night of the 'attack' her rapist telling her he would never take his actions back.

I'll stand for the girl with a knife to her arm, wishing she would have carried her pepper spray that night, to be used on a man who attacked with all his might.

I'll take a stand. Will you?

An insightful poem on an international issue, well articulated and nicely penned with conviction. Thanks for bringing to limelight some of the gender based crimes against women. A lovely piece of poetry bristling with insight. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
