Team Player Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Team Player

Once a ball is brought,
To the top of a hill.
Expecting it to stay,
Where it is placed to sit.
As many discuss,
What game to play.
And who should be picked,
On which side to compete against.
Not to notice the ball,
Has begun to roll downhill.
Someone has to get it if wanted back.
And the one who does that,
Should not be accused...
Of seeking attention to get.
Yet often is.
For not being a team player.
Or displaying good sportsmanship.

"None of you chose,
To run after the ball.
And how could a game to play,
Be done without it? "

-Sure.
Why does it always have to be you,
To bring up details all the time.
For your 'information'...
We were staring at each other,
To decide who to pick...
That would make the game more competitive.-

"Without a ball?
That makes no sense at all."

-If you had kept your mouth closed,
You might have been picked...
To play on my team.
But 'No'!
You decided to be an 'outsider'!
Bringing attention to yourself.-
