Tears For My Homeland Poem by Chea En Suos

Tears For My Homeland

My heart is torn, a raven's beak
Has pecked old wounds that leave me weak.
Alas, cruel fate, what grief I bear,
My homeland suffers in despair.

Scattered apart, no longer one,
Far from the land where I was born.
A burning ache swells in my breast,
Till tears flow freely without rest.

How can I speak? How can I stay
In silent sorrow day by day?
My heart is crushed by pain untold,
How long must grief within me hold?

I pray to heaven, night and day,
To gods above I humbly pray:
'Please cast your mercy from above,
On Khmer whose wounds know little love.'

Khmer, unite, stand hand in hand,
Let no division scar our land.
Do not fall into hatred's snare,
Nor turn on those with whom you share

The blood, the name, the Khmer soul,
That binds us all and makes us whole.
For only Khmer can truly see
The strength that's found in unity.

Though far away from native shore,
My heart still feels its ancient roar.
I see Khmer daughters, Khmer sons,
And fear what discord yet may come.

Thus I appeal with all my might:
Choose patience, wisdom, what is right.
Put faith in virtue, let peace grow,
And let old grudges finally go.

Let Khmer embrace a better way,
Where harmony and kindness stay.
For if as one our hearts endure,
A brighter future waits for sure.
