Thanks Poem by Juan Olivarez

Thanks

For every day in which you rise,
Thank the man upstairs.
Each day as you open your eyes,
And you think of all your cares.

Think first to say thank-you,
For all your hopes and fears.
That is the first thing you should do,
Thank-you for the laughs and tears.

For every day you see the sun,
And the stars in the night sky.
Thank him till your days are done,
And your soul has wings to fly.

Each day that we are given,
Each day our lease is renewed,
From paradise we were once driven,
And with a thought process imbued.

So we know where our thanks should be,
As our days pile on one by one.
And if you can, say thanks for me,
As we walk towards the setting sun
