Thanksgiving Poem by Frank Adie

Thanksgiving

There are over five million people on a wheelchair the world over,
That you are not one of them, is God's mercy, give Him thanks.
There are a lot of people who didn't survive what kept you alive on a wheelchair
That you are alive on that wheelchair is still God's mercy, give Him thanks.

You are alive, wretched and starving is God's mercy, give Him thanks
For a living dog is better than a dead lion.

There are a lot of wealthy people with so much to eat, but cannot because of affliction,
That you are healthy enough to relish junk foods, is God's mercy, give Him thanks.

There are lots and lots of people within you age bracket with terminal diseases,
That you are sound and healthy is God's mercy, give Him thanks.
If you have a terminal disease, and your life is not yet terminated, give Him thanks
For to every breathing thing, there is hope for a turnaround.

Lots and lots of people bought cars that ended up killing them,
You are not unfortunate for not owing one, it is by God's mercy
That you are where you are, give Him thanks.

There are lots and lots of married and yet unhappy people,
That you are married and happy is God's mercy, give Him thanks.
We have had numerous cases of husbands killing wives and vice versa,
That you are single and alive is by God's mercy, give Him thanks.

There were babies that were stillborn on the same day you were born,
That you are alive and breathing today is God's mercy, give Him thanks.
Millions and millions of people died in their teens,
That you were opportune to cross the teenage bar, is God's mercy, give Him thanks.

You are a graduate and have a job is God's mercy, give Him thanks
Because there are far more intelligent and jobless people with higher degrees.
If you are a graduate without a job, you are still blessed, give Him thanks
Because they are people who were not opportune to have primary education.

There are lots of people who embarked on a journey and never returned,
That you have plied multiple routes and returned safely is God's mercy, give Him thanks.

Your condition is never the worst. In any condition you find yourself, always know that they are people who have suffered more piteous fate. Thus, "In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" 1 Thess 5: 18.
