That Special Song Poem by Holmes Jim

That Special Song

A song will play and spur me on,
And pull me back to a past long gone,
I listen closely as words rush by,
Lost in thoughts of times gone bye,

I visit memories of accomplished days,
As the music flows, my mind strays,
To wild parties with crazy friends,
And family outings on long weekends,

Youthful days, that's where I'm drawn,
To football games on a neighbor's lawn,
Of high school dances, I reminisce,
And cruising songs, and my first kiss,

I cherish memories of days foregone,
Stirred by lyrics as tunes play on,
To drinking games with many beers,
And skinny dipping in teenage years,

Folks around me, are unaware,
I've left them now and been taken there,
Lost for the moment, I've been swept away,
Back in time as the soundtrack plays,

I hear the words of that special song,
And head on back, as it plays along,
To golden days with youthful friends,
Until such time, as the music ends.
