The wonders are no longer there
My gasps are memories of long ago,
Each one of you abraded my heart
(and that's just for a start)
As I plummeted in youth's rabbit hole so low.
But thank goodness,
No longer am I as tempest-tossed-
Old age has salved my youthful woes,
The Stygian river which winds and folds
Propels me forth as it goes and it flows.
Now my breathing is more balanced and evenly paced,
Even though I miss each of your eyes,
And your charming trails, and guileless plays
And your winsome wits-
And all of your sighs.
Not to mention all of your willful ways.
Yes, I guess, I'll always be resigned
Mired
by these romantic typhoons,
But my memories of each of you-
Are still my suns and my moons.
I can't help but wonder if I had not cast and let go
Each of you in my net on this way round
Would I'd now get the bliss
Of the new memories I missed-
And would no longer be Stygian-streaming
On this river-
Where I'm unbound.
