1953 was the year,
February 3rd, month and day,
The Batepa massacre here
On the island of Sao Tome.
The Portuguese government had
Enslaved native people to toil
On plantations, conditions bad,
Tending cocoa beans in the soil.
And when the natives did rebel,
The government chose force for sure,
That helpless natives would face hell,
Hundreds killed in the massacre.
By government authority
Bodies were dumped into the sea.
