The Bear Poem by Dennis Ryan

The Bear

February 27,2005

"will any come back will one... "
- W.S. Merwin, "The Animals"

I await the bear: he will
emerge from hibernation,
to come back to my house;
to enter, to open the cupboards,
to stand upright on his hind legs
to get to the honey; and then to look
back at me with those bear eyes.
