The Boy With A Dark Painted Life Poem by Ekwueme Kelechi

The Boy With A Dark Painted Life

Dear, this is the boy
I told you of
He's the one who fell off
From the ladder of humanity

Kanosa, look at me
Look into the face of the sorrowful day
And table your heart
Tell her the sounds that gong in your heart

Tell her the words of your belly
The thunder that thunders
From its rage
See it not as fate

I knew the day you became single
I knew the day civilization failed you
And your feet kissed this ancient stronghold of Africa
Though there's a white pillar

Blinking a head of you
With faithful faces
The firewood of joy burning there
Cannot quench what lies outside that Africa
