The Breakthrough Poem by Camacy Melville

The Breakthrough

The Time has come when we can start realizing the reality that we are living in [YES]

When the oppression and underestimation that was planted within us can be extracted from our minds [WE]

Years of feeling pressured, humiliated, inadequate and abandoned has been lifted off our hearts [CAN]

The Breakthrough of not being rejected, contradicted or mistreated, but finally being ACCEPTED [YES]

Into a brand new CHANGED society that felt they were being neglected [WE]

Prosperity, anticipation and high expectations is what we as a whole hoped for and brought HIM to the inauguration [CAN]

Change, Change, Change is what we heard we can bring [YES]

To a country that was falling, failing and being pushed against a wall can now open their mouths and say “LET FREEDOM RING” [WE]

Not letting the adversity, ignorance and denial of others bring us down [CAN]

But emerging from our closed minds, breaking out of our worn out shell and allowing our voice to be projected and remembered [YES]

Uniting as a country, state, city, town, family and self, we brought the greatest change ever known to us [WE]

Forgetting about yesterday, Living for today and not thinking about tomorrow [CAN]

Reaching beyond the clouds to the sky, Leaving the sky to touch the universe, Gazing down from the stars to know we have overcome [YES]

The impossible has been made possible, the unthinkable has been thought about, the immobile can be moved [WE]

What cannot be seen is in sight, what couldn’t be heard is within earshot, the unspeakable can now speak, mimicking, reciting and responding [DID]

Saying: YES WE CAN[AMERICA] YES WE CAN [YOUTH] YES WE CAN [CHILDREN] YES WE CAN, YES WE CAN AND WE WILL GLADLY RESPOND WITH DIGNITY, PRIDE, JOY UNDERSTANDING AND HAPPINESS YES WE DID!
