The Burke Brothers Brendan And Tommy Poem by Francis Duggan

The Burke Brothers Brendan And Tommy

The Burke brothers Brendan and Tommy as Gaelic Footballers were amongst Millstreet's best
And they were not found to be wanting when they were put to the test
Two of the sporting heroes of famous Millstreet Town
It can be said about them that they never did leave their Club down.

The best of goods come in small parcels to the Burkes did apply
That they were great Gaelic Footballers of them none could deny
Even when Millstreet were being beaten they never would give in
It can be said about them they did their best to win.

For Millstreet in the green and gold some great games they did play
How often in Macroom and Coachford they helped for to win the day
To watch them soloing with the football so lovely to behold
As good a players that ever wore the famous green and gold

In the length and breadth of County Cork Tommy and Brendan are well known
From the mid sixties to the early eighties in a class of their own
When they were in their prime years their Club a hard team to beat
Duhallow's greatest football team in the colours of Millstreet.

In their prime years famed Gaelic Footballers some great stories of them told
And in their Hometown by Clara Mountain the Burkes are growing old
Father time is catching up on them the years have left them slow
They were great Gaelic Footballers some thirty years ago.
