The Cheater Poem by Kimberly Lindsey

The Cheater

I remember the day, on the front porch.
It was about midnight, and I was so tired, yet did not leave till four.
The next day I had class, and I thought of you all day,
As tired as I was, I could barely stay awake.

The next time we spoke, we had dinner and fell,
It was two in the morn’n when the phone rang its bell.
An accident had taken the life of your driver,
So I drove you to town, it was a night like no other.

On our way home, you professed your love and affection.
You asked me to marry you, and of course, I said; yes.

Little did I know that my life would be torn asunder.
You reneged, on the wedding, and a cheater you became.
Blaming all and sundry, for your total lack of shame.

You broke my heart, yet, I loved you still.
It took a year and a half, and we reconciled, I was thrilled.

I was happy, and loved you, and you cheated again.
What is wrong, don’t you love me? I love you still.
And here we are again, what do we do now?

Do I trust you; do I love you, and forgive you now?
I want to be with you, but trust you, I can not. Do we try to start over?
Or is it all for naught?
